Now this might just be me, but I don’t like most of the credit card machines in South Africa. I have a chip and pin card, so that means obviously that I need to put in a pin code when I use my card. That is fine.
What I don’t like is when you are given the machine to enter your pin code the screen doesn’t display the amount that you are actually authorising. I have included a couple of photos below of several different types of machines and even on the biggest screens, they don’t say the amount.
Now most people are honest, but let’s just say that I go to Spur with my family and the waiter there puts in the wrong amount or maybe even adds a zero… You then authorise the card and it goes through. You then get your slip to sign (this is stupid in my opinion) and you see the amount. You then have to go through the hassle of getting the amount reversed.
Would it not just be easier to show the amount on the screen? After these images, I have included a photo of a very cool machine with I think all the rest should emulate.
This is the cool machine. What do you think? Should this be done, or am I just complaining for the sake of complaining?
