In the first part of Measuring the internet we looked at the way Facebook’s input boxes and layouts didn’t really make sense.

Over the past couple of weeks they have a changed the way photos are displayed.

So you click on a photo and it opens up in a sort of a lightbox frame.

Think Facebook!! Think!

So please explain to me why the frame could not cover the last couple of millimetres so that the screen looks cleaner. But now on both sides of the frame it doesn’t cover the whole screen.

Now if you look at a site that does photos, like Flickr.com they also use a lightbox frame. But theirs is beautiful. It blanks out the background allows simple navigation and is much nicer to look at.

This a straight up comparison of 2 images 1 from Facebook and 1 from Flickr. 1 is beautiful and 1 looks like it was designed by a 5 year old. Well done Facebook on keeping it young.

BTW, both photos are from the movember campaign.

Update 31 March 2011 : Well it seems that a lot of people have also got a problem with the way Facebook shows the images. So much so that they actually created a Plugin to revert back to the original way Facebook used to show images. Do you want it? Well of course you do.

Need to know how to do it? It works in Internet Explorer, Firefox and Chrome.
